Audition Answers
Auditions are a wonderful way for students to gain self-confidence and experience in performing in front of people. CYT encourages every student ages 8-12 to participate in auditions. Unfortunately, we are unable to cast all who audition, but we feel that the experience is something students won't want to miss.
Generally speaking, one-third of most casts consist of students who are new to CYT. CYT students who have participated in several shows have worked hard to improve their skills in auditioning and performing through attending CYT classes. We feel
training is important, and that with training comes the confidence and skills necessary to have a good audition.
Students who are not cast in the show are encouraged to participate in other ways: delivering backstage grams and ushering. More information regarding auditions will be given on the first class day.
Currently enrolled CYT students ages 8-12 are invited to audition for the production.
Prepare a one minute or less audition song which you will sing solo. Bring an instrumental-only tape or CD.
You must turn in all the items listed below before auditioning. All forms are currently

CYT is an after-school theater arts training program for students ages 4-18. Auditions are only open to students that are registered for the session. You must understand that when you audition you are also commiting to the classes as well, WHETHER OR NOT YOU ARE CAST IN THE SHOW.
Our primary goal in this program is character development which includes follow-through on commitment. Every student is committed to attend classes and perform in the showcase on the last class day.
The classes we offer are high quality and fun. Your child will love the classes, they will learn new techniques and skills for stage performance as well as build confidence for the future show auditions. The director takes into consideration when casting a show many things including whether a student gives their very best, cooperates with the artistic team, keeps a positive, team attitiude and honors commitments.
Our class size is limited so to improve your chances of getting the class you want we recommend that you register in advance. You may also register at auditions.
To be eligible to audition you must register and pay prior to audition.

REHEARSAL EXACT SCHEDULE FOR THE VELVETEEN RABBIT WILL BE ANNOUNCED:
Generally they rehearse on Fridays 5:00-9:00, Saturdays 9:00-Noon.
Your child LIKELY will not be scheduled for every rehearsal. Rehearsal requirements will depend upon the role they have in the show.
It is VERY important that you check you calendar prior to auditioning. There is a section on the audition form for you to list any conflicts. The director takes these dates into consideration when casting and any dates listed as conflicts will be allowed absences.
Students ages 8-12 are eligible to audition for "The Emperor's New Threads" or "The Velveteen Rabbit."
In fact, your child may audition for both shows if they would like to. "The Emperor's New Threads" will be cast first then whichever students (ages 8-12) that are not cast in "Emperor" will automatically become eligible to be cast in "The Velveteen Rabbit" unless you tell us otherwise at auditions.
Our CYT Jr. shows have been so popular we have decided to offer the opportunity once again. These CYT Jr. shows give the younger students a great opportunity for leading roles that they otherwise will not have in our big productions.
The parent requirement is not as demanding for our Jr. shows. We will also have added help backstage during shows to allow parents the opportunity to watch more of the performances.
IF YOUR CHILD PLANS TO AUDITION FOR "THE EMPEROR'S NEW THREADS" YOU SHOULD READ PARENT COMMITMENTS .
